A message of peace, love, non-violence, patience & kindness has been spread by the young enthusiastic students of Suryadatta Junior college on the occasion of Buddha Purnima at the college premises on 10th May 2025. It has been celebrated with immense enthusiasm and active participation from both students and staff emphasizing the significance of the Buddha’s teaching such as the development of wisdom, moral character, and concentration among the students.
The celebration commenced with the National Anthem.
Mrs. Saili Hardas a aculty of social science briefed the audience about the significance of the event.
Daksh Kahat, a student of Std XII Commerce delivered an introductory speech on the Significance of Buddha Purnima.
Saanvi Mattigatti, a student of Std. XII Commerce narrated the Journey of Lord Buddha from Prince to Saint in a serene way spreading spirituality among the audience.
Vedika Band, recited a soulful poem, showcasing the possibilities of extreme destruction caused by wars and its implications in today’s scenario.
Dr. Ramchandran (Director General & CDO of SGI) delivered an inspiring speech on Sanatana Dharma by throwing an insight on Adi Shankaracharya’s work especially in spreading of Hinduism by establishing Matthh at four different places in India.
The main attaraction of the event was an anecdote of Buddha’s life: A Story of Angulimaal.
The story demonstrates that regardless of past actions, change is always attainable. Angulimala underwent a complete transformation from a ruthless murderer to a disciple of Lord Buddha. The drama was presented by Mayuresh Bonge (Commerce) in the role of Buddha, Sudam Pote (Science) in the role of Angulimaal and Vaishnavi Tipewar (Science) in the role of Angulimaal’s mother. It was beautifully narrated by Saanvi Mattigatti (Commerce). Script writing, music selection and overall coordination were done by Ms. Ankita Jadhav, Ms. Saili Hardas & Ms. Pinki Karmakar. Coordination for costumes of the characters was done by Mrs. Vandana Pandey & Ms. Siddhi Khale.
The Relevance of Buddha’s Teaching in Today’s Time, it was presented by a small skit.
The story revolves around a college boy, Rahul, who is addicted to his mobile phone so much that he attempts to hit on his own teacher and mother when they try to restrict him from access use of mobile.
Buddha’s Eightfold Teaching made Rahul realizes his mistakes and awakens him to follow the path of compassion & non-violence. The skit has been presented by Mayuresh Bonge as Buddha, Shlok Mohol Rahul, Daksh Kahat a teacher, Gargi Zare, Rahul’s mother and Pranay Kumbhar Rahul’s friend.
The whole skit has been beautifully narrated by Saanvi Mattigatti a student of Commerce. Script writing, music selection and overall coordination had been done by staff members of SJC - Ms. Ankita Jadhav, Ms. Saili Hardas & Ms. Pinki Karmakar. Coordination for costumes of the characters has been done by Mrs. Vandana Pandey Principal & Ms. Siddhi Khale –an admin of SJC.
The program has been concluded with a short speech by Ms. Pinki Karmakar who appreciated the students for participation and for their efforts to improve their dialogues and for a complete presentation. Board decoration and classroom decoration by Daksh Kahat, Karuna Prajapati, Mahesh Choudhary, Yashvi Pandya, Sajiri, Randewadi, Saniya Sen, Gauri Deshpande, Ojal Konali and Anjali Kangetti under the guidance of Ms. Ankita Jadhav.

Dr.(Prof) Sanjay B. Chordiya Chairman and Founder of the SGI, appreciated the efforts of the students and staff members and encouraged them to participate in such events more and more for “Holistic Development”. Mrs. Snehal Navalakha appreciated all the participants, saying that such activities develops many skills amongst the students like Public Speaking, diminishes stage fear, acting, writing, fine arts etc. Chocolates were distributed amongst the students.
The event was a great success that can be visualized through the big rounds of applauds after each segment and smiling faces of the students.
